YOU Can Cook!

If I can create and operate a successful restaurant without one minute of previous restaurant experience, YOU can cook at home successfully!

I realize everyone doesn’t love food as much as I do, but you’ve gotta eat, so why not eat well? That’s what Chef My Life is all about… encouragement for the home cook. Food is one of the most important parts of our lives. It’s how we survive, it’s how we stay sane, and it’s what brings us together as human beings. You deserve to eat well, and I want you to do that for yourself!

What do you need to get started? You’ll need some cookware, no doubt, and though I suggest you buy yourself something nice if you have a genuine interest, don’t be afraid to use what you’ve got. I personally started out with cheap Teflon coated pots and pans, plastic utensils, a George Foreman Grill I bought on clearance for $12, and some super flimsy baking sheets. It’s what I had at the time, so I made it work.  The point… I came from that, and I ended up a professional chef. You can manage to cook dinner, and you don’t have to break the bank.

Know your limitations! I didn’t start out making gourmet dishes that look like they belong on the cover of a magazine, and you probably won’t either at first. You will learn techniques and how to build flavor palates through experience. If it sounds good, and it’s marked as “easy”, give it a shot. Don’t be discouraged if you fail though! I still fail all the time when trying something new. I don’t usually take a photo and put myself on blast about it… I keep trying until I get it right. Then I take the photo 🙂

Give yourself time. Some of you will catch on very quickly, while others will feel like they are going at a snail’s pace. That’s okay! Keep going, keep trying, and enjoy the process… You will accomplish much in time if you determine yourself to do so. Never be afraid to ask questions, back up the video, re-read the recipe, and re-think through your experience. You should hear my kids give their honest opinions of Chef Dad’s creations. It can be humbling at times, but honest feedback is fuel for growth! It can also tell you that you’ve nailed it, and it’s time to accept success (and stop tweaking it.)

So you’re prepped… I say you can do it… I know you can! Let’s start cooking!
